RE
At Burlington Junior School, we aim to develop pupils who are able to apply their skills, knowledge and understanding in a confident, meaningful yet courteous manner in the wider community.
The teaching of Religious Education undoubtedly parts a significant part in this, allowing pupils to have the cultural awareness and understanding that they need to succeed in life.
With this in mind, the RE curriculum has been carefully structured in accordance with guidance from the local authority’s Standing Advisory Councils for Religious Education (SACRE).
Through doing so, we aim to help pupils become reflective and articulate individuals who are able to express their own thoughts and beliefs in a considerate manner, whilst respecting diversity and individuality.
Year 3
In Year 3, our RE journey begins with the theme of Remembering, exploring special events in the calendar and their significance to individuals and religious groups. We then move to Founders of Faith, discussing influential people—both personal and public—across various religions. Finally, we explore Sacred Places, reflecting on places that matter to us and learning about sacred buildings, how they are respected, and their importance in different faiths.

Year 4
In Year 4, we focus on Communities, exploring local groups and what it means to belong, including the feelings, rights, and responsibilities involved. We then study People Who Inspire Us, reflecting on important individuals in our lives and inspirational figures from various faiths. Finally, we explore Our World, considering how people and beliefs influence how we care for the world around us.

Year 5
In Year 5, RE focuses on Expression of Belief, exploring how people of different faiths express their beliefs through words, actions, and daily life. We look at Faith in Action, considering how individuals live out their beliefs, the challenges they face, and how their faith guides their choices. We also study Pilgrimage, examining its significance across religions, how people prepare for these spiritual journeys, and what they hope to gain from the experience.

"It is interesting to learn about what someone else will be celebrating while I'm celebrating Christmas, for example. It is good to share the stories of our unique lives" - Rosie, Class 8.
Year 6
In Year 6, RE explores Justice and Freedom, encouraging pupils to reflect on what is fair and how these values are expressed across different communities and religions. We then look at Living a Faith, examining how people express their identity through religious beliefs and practices. Finally, we consider Hopes and Visions, exploring big questions about the meaning of life, personal purpose, and how different faiths approach ultimate questions.
