Safeguarding pupils

The safety of our pupils is paramount; a child needs to be and feel safe to reach their full potential emotionally, socially and academically.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children.

The school works in partnership with Humberside Police as part of the Domestic Abuse alert system (Operation Encompass) and within the Safer Schools Partnership arrangements with the local Community Policing Team.

Our Designated Governor for Safeguarding and Children who are Looked After is Mrs L Grimshaw.

Meet our Safeguarding Team:

Mrs Kirby - Designated Safeguarding Lead

Mrs Harding - Parent and Pastoral Support

Mrs Sanderson - Deputy Safeguarding Lead and Looked After Children Coordinator

Miss Campleman - Looked After Children Coordinator

We teach the children how to keep themselves safe in a range of situations including on the road, on the internet and with regard to a variety of potentially dangerous situations and substances.

We work with colleagues in the emergency services and other organisations to offer children a real insight into hazards they may face out of school.

We undertake regular checks on the security and safety of the school grounds and buildings to ensure our pupils are able to learn in a protected environment. Mrs Kirby (Acting Headteacher), Mrs Sanderson (Acting Deputy Headteacher), Miss Campleman (Acting Assistant Headteacher) and Mrs Harding (Parent & Pastoral Support) are the Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) for the school and all staff are trained in relevant Safeguarding procedures.

If we have any concerns about a child we will share them with the appropriate authorities, in accordance with the Child Protection Policy, a copy of which is available from the office or on our website.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information sharing partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support for children and young people experiencing domestic abuse. Information is shared by the police with a school’s trained Key Adult (DSL) prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident thus enabling appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.

Children experiencing domestic abuse are negatively impacted by this exposure; domestic abuse has been identified as an Adverse Childhood Experience and can lead to emotional, physical and psychological harm. Operation Encompass aims to mitigate this harm by enabling immediate support, making a child’s day better and giving them a better tomorrow.

Operation Encompass believes that children are victims of domestic abuse in their own right and should be acknowledged as such.
