Our School Council
School Council
Our Student Council is ran by Miss Whalley and is made up of enthusiastic representatives from each class who work together to make our school an even better place! The council meets regularly with Miss Whalley to share ideas, discuss important issues, and plan ways to improve school life for everyone.
Council members listen to suggestions from their classmates and bring these ideas to our meetings, where we work as a team to find solutions and make positive changes. They also help to organise events, support school projects, and encourage everyone to get involved in making our school community caring, creative, and fun.
Being part of the Student Council helps pupils develop confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills – and gives every child a voice in shaping our school.
Our Vision:
At Burlington Junior School, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to contribute to school life and make a positive difference within our community. The School Council plays an important role in ensuring that pupils' views are heard and valued.
Through participation in the School Council, we encourage our children to:
- Develop confidence, leadership and responsibility.
- Recognise and achieve their full potential.
- Become active and responsible citizens.
- Understand the importance of healthy, safe and positive lifestyles.
- Build respectful relationships with others and celebrate diversity.
- Share their ideas, opinions and concerns in a meaningful way.
Why Do We Have a School Council?
At Burlington Junior School, we are committed to ensuring that pupils have a voice in decisions that affect their school experience. The School Council provides children with the opportunity to express their views, contribute ideas and help shape the future of our school.
We believe that listening to pupils helps create a stronger, more inclusive school community and promotes the values of democracy, respect and responsibility.
What We Aim To Achieve:
Our School Council works to ensure that pupils have:
- A safe, caring and supportive learning environment.
- Opportunities to express their opinions and know they will be listened to.
- A platform to suggest improvements and contribute positively to school life.
- Experiences that develop problem-solving, teamwork and leadership skills.
- An understanding of democratic processes and British Values.
Skills and Experiences:
Being a School Council representative provides valuable opportunities for pupils to develop a range of skills, including:
- Planning and organising activities or projects.
- Speaking confidently and listening respectfully to others.
- Presenting and debating ideas.
- Working collaboratively to solve problems.
- Developing an understanding of fundraising and budgeting.
Sharing Outcomes and Feedback:
Communication is a key role of every School Council member.
After meetings, representatives update their classmates on discussions, decisions and future plans. This helps ensure that all pupils feel involved and informed about developments within the school.
By listening to the views of their peers and sharing information effectively, School Council members help make Burlington Junior School a place where every child's voice matters.
